The sexual morality of traditional religion tends to be based, not on solid
ethical principles, but on a set of taboos about what kinds of sex God does
and doesn’t want people to have. And while the sex-positive community
offers a more thoughtful view of sexual morality, it still often frames
sexuality as positive by seeing it as a spiritual experience. What are some
atheist alternatives to these views? How can atheists view sexual ethics
without a belief in God? And how can atheists view sexual transcendence
without a belief in the supernatural?

I’m not sure what makes her think that CHRISTIAN parents, believe that sex
is “dirty and disgusting”, and teach that to their children. I’ve never
heard of this before. She’s definitely using VERY rare or EXTREME examples,
and DECEPTIVELY – APPLYING these to CHRISTIANITY OVERALL. HOW can ANY
HONEST & INTELLIGENT Person,ALLOW THEMSELVES to ACTUALLY BELIEVE such
MANIPULATED BS???

Jim McGahhey

This woman has not read the Bible on the topic of sex. There are idiots out
there in the “name of God” that has made really dumb statements about what
can and cannot be done regarding the matter, but God only set standards
that would honor his name, not things that would disgust us Christians…
She is supposing that I am a Christian because I believe I have similar
feelings to what Jesus taught so I’m going to follows Christ teaching. I
think I am starting to see how truth is rejected because we want our own
logic to be justified…

What an ugly bitch.

In the rest of the World, I think problems have been compounded in the modern age, where sexual customs, attitudes, myths and taboos that arose from a village or traditional setting, struggle to stay relevant by imposing itself into the modern World as a social streaming and social engineering mechanism. More so with the introduction of Western Scientific educations that blasted away centuries worth of social stratification and allowed for social mobility overnight (with an education providing keys to status and luxury in the modern age, versus other virtues, qualities, or assets that arguably have become less valuable today). So… Read more »

Great talk. This was one of the best explanation about the transcendence of
sex:
we have words and make them to poetry, we have sounds and make them to
music, we have reproduction and make it to sex.

Miss skipticon said very true , almost obvious . Atheism makes more sence
than Genisis , the prophets and new Jerusalem .

Excellent, Greta!

Love this talk by Greta Christina on atheism and sexuality: “Atheism and

and you have still not offered any explanation as to how something complex
enough to design and create out wonderfully complex universe could have
come about? You just assume if I can not understand it GOD DID IT. If you
can do the above in a rational scientific manner I MIGHT consider what you
say. until then, “keep your superstitions deep inside your mental prison
and let us grownups make our own decisions.”

Johnny TheMUSICmaN

MRI testing has proven that religious cognitive behavior stems from an
evolved neuron pathway disorder which effects the need for protection,
authority and adoration. It also reflects a slight form of dementia which
culminates thoughts of wish thinking and search for delusional superstition
to effectively obtain security through solidarity with kin like individuals
which could afford them solace and reinforcement by proselytization.

IDontCare2DoYou

wo wo wo, not “I’ve just had a babby” What the hell? What about you had a
babby therefore I don’t wanna have sex with you any more? If someone ever
denies you sex, when they would normally do it with you why not have sex
with someone else?

robloxplox

We didn’t evolve from Apes nor monkeys. Apes are in other words anthropoid
mammals and monkeys are primates. And humans are homo sapiens. You made a
huge categorization error. The big bang wasn’t an explosion it was an
expansion of space-time. Typical mistakes of a science illiterates. With
monstrous mistake like that how would someone possibly take your arguments
seriously. Since the difference of a troll and you, isn’t much.

Thechristiancullen

You must live in a different world to me. 80% of everyone I see are
atheists and boy there are some ugly atheists – many nerds in speckled
cardigans coming out of the Skeptics Society and have you been to North
Korea lately?

SoyBoySigh

In other words, Darwin’s theories were indifferent from those of say,
Lamarck – who thought Giraffes stretched their necks while reaching for
leaves – because he had missed out completely on the nature of sexuality as
the determinator, as the source of variety and the mechanism of gene mixing
etc. Which is to say Darwin didn’t HAVE a theory of evolution. He saw that
life Evolved – pointed out by Lamarck too, years before – but he offered
nothing new. Until Wallace sent HIS in for publishing.

Scrapheap71

Sieg heil Emil, sieg heil. You’ve made Hitler proud!

Greta Cristina can kiss my ass. Yes, i know, i’m a fucking misogynist. Blah
Blah Blah!

IDontCare2DoYou

And what is misogynistic about anything I said? Is it misogyny to point out
the guys side? To notice that sex with a vagina that has had a baby pushed
through it is far less pleasurable than with one that hasn’t? The bit that
gets me is the bit after when she says, just so you know I’ve had a kid, I
noticed, I visited the exit wound no need to tell me.

IDontCare2DoYou

???? Well first my initial point was, you just had a baby therefore I don’t
wanna have sex with you. “As to why you wouldn’t just find someone else.
The answer is: you love that person, are devoted to them, and can wait a
bit. Oh, and aren’t an asshole.” Well one you seem already decided I am an
asshole so pff. Can I wait a bit? Should I? Do I love anyone? Am I devoted
to them? If so wouldn’t they be kind enough not to ruin their vagina? Am I
ignorant of child birth, no thats why I’m grossed out

Mimi HO

Maybe you should learn what feminism means.

Mark Lluf

As a theist I can interpret the ancient book anyway I want to since it is
frigging ambiguous. Since God is not held to any moral standards
whatsoever, I can kill in the name of God. For you to think I need to find
a verse in scripture justify my moral thinking, is problematic.

Kevin Wetzler

The broccoli analogy made me smile. When I was sixteen or so, I came up
with a similar analogy, though my vegetable of personal revulsion was lima
beans.

Paul Johnston

It just proves that something can be equally made up and believed,
otherwise we are lacking our own intelligent design and revert to name
calling, bullying, public ridicule, slander, or worse – violence to force
others to see it our way.

killdawabbit497

I don’t know that I agree. Not necessarily the whole Christian thing, but
in this specific instance they may be on to something. Look at things like
the divorce rate (and who is filing for them), the amount of people in the
welfare system (you have to pay attention, because they divide up the
statistics), incarceration rates, so on and so forth. Even with the
availability of birth control, there are an alarming number of single
parent households. Statistically, this has not been a good thing.

18:25 Arm Flaps!

Utracia1

and no doubt the proper way of punishing someone for sex outside of
marriage was death. The Bible is very good at killing people for everything
decided as “immoral”.

Ava Hubber

I just love Greta Christina, she is great.

robloxplox

He was beaten and tortured in our place? Wait.. who was going to beat us up
if jesus never came?

benzorabidbilly

Whatsamatter, have trouble getting sex ?

mrcooldude964

jesus is coming back any day and this women refuses to chose jesus and
continues to promote atheism. those who go to hell will have no one but
themselves to blame. she could chose jesus right now and be saved, instead
she continues to spit on jesus and all thats holy.

baxtar1963

Are you punking us? Did you get molested and abused as a child? You said
you were friends with a six year old? You actually put out a comment
basically saying that you are a phedofile.

SoyBoySigh

It’s really up-lifting to hear such sensible and positivist pro-sex
activism coming from a WOMAN. There, I said it. Seriously though, I was
raised by an angry divorcee art student and I was born in the early ”70s –
many early memories of viciously angry divorcee women rant about cutting
their ex-s dick off, just a whole shit-load on nasty female-chauvanist
behaviour through-out my childhood. Then I went through 2 relationships,
13yrs and 7yrs, with flakey hippie self-styled feminist types. CONT

Johnny TheMUSICmaN

You’re really blowing things out of proportion, aren’t you my dear chubby?
It was purely an observation on my part. I’m relatively happy and quite
satisfied with life in general. I haphazardly clicked on this video by
mistake to view a woman flailing her flabby arms waiving them
simultaneously in the wind expecting an arriving airflow to lift her up
into the heavens! BUT there wasn’t any wind fit enough that could
accomplish such a task!! She should have at least worn appropriate
clothing!

Johnny TheMUSICmaN

If you’re referring to my comment possibly, I’m sorry but I just can’t get
past her flapping fat arms! No offense but she makes valid points in a
boring way! If you want to hear a professional spokesperson on these issues
tune in to: CHRISTOPHER HITCHENS DEBATES…

wyattbutler87

She needs to be on the howard stern show!! They would get along great!
Bababooey

Brian Dean

Let’s look at her broccoli analogy. What if there is evidence that you are
more likely to get a disease from eating broccoli than eating some other
kinds of food? Should broccoli then be regulated?

Samael51760

Fortunately agnosticism, ignosticism, atheism and other non-religious
philosophies are growing. Organized religion is dying. Slowly but surely.
You’re in no position to say what fools believe considering the fact that
you’re obviously no professor or expert in anything. Your idea that Jesus
is coming back any day now has been around since medieval times. The
peasants in medieval Europe used to believe that Jesus would come back and
relieve their suffering. But he didn’t. We’re on our own.

facetiousNegregious

Are you seriously basing your entire view regarding this matter on one
person’s vagina? WTF?

Samael51760

Because we’ve read the Bible and know that it’s a book of ancient myths.

Well worth the 40 minutes of time to hear a thoughtful analysis of human sexuality without the warping by religious dogma.

I thought so too. Greta usually grates me if she speaks too long. But this time she nailed it. Good work.
