Father of Newborn Killed By ‘Accidental’ Gunshot From Neighbor, Who Blames Gun (Video)
Gun nuts always like to say that it isn’t the guns who kill people, it’s the person with the gun. After all, they say, it takes a human pulling the trigger to actually kill someone, so you can’t ever blame a gun.
But apparently a man who fatally shot his neighbor on accident didn’t get that memo.
It all happened in Florida (where else?) when Charles Edward Shisler, of Panama City, being the “responsible” gun owner that he is, had been drinking and allegedly picked up his 9mm gun by the trigger. The gun went off and, according to Major Tommy Ford of the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, the bullet “traveled from within his residence, through his yard, through a wooded area that was probably 20 feet, through the back yard of the victim’s residence, through the sliding glass and across that residence,”
And against infinitesimal odds, the bullet struck and killed Steven Justin Ayers, 33, who was in the house and at the wrong place at the wrong time. Tragically, Ayers and his wife had just come home from the hospital with their 3 day old newborn baby.
Shisler was arrested and charged with Manslaughter and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. He had a previous felony conviction for carrying a concealed firearm from 2006, and his BAC, taken more than 4 hours after the incident, was measured at 0.079.
So here we have a convicted felon who illegally owns a firearm and had been drinking. Nothing could go wrong, right?
Well, if it wasn’t for that “damn gun”, nothing would have gone wrong, according to the suspect.
“The damn gun doesn’t usually shoot,” Shisler’s arrest report quoted him as saying. “You have to squeeze the hell out of the trigger to shoot it.”
Only in America…
