In other words, Speaker Pelosi whomped his ass…

Trump Says He Will Do the State of the Union ‘When the Shutdown is Over’

Late Wednesday night, President Donald Trump tweeted out that he will do his State of the Union address “when the shutdown is over.”

“As the Shutdown was going on, Nancy Pelosi asked me to give the State of the Union Address. I agreed. She then changed her mind because of the Shutdown, suggesting a later date. This is her prerogative – I will do the Address when the Shutdown is over,” Trump wrote.

He continued on: “I am not looking for an alternative venue for the SOTU Address because there is no venue that can compete with the history, tradition and importance of the House Chamber. I look forward to giving a ‘great’ State of the Union Address in the near future!”

Earlier, Trump had insisted that he still planned to give his speech in the House chambers as planned after Pelosi called for the postponement of the speech.

Pelosi then denied Trump the use of the chambers, prompting Trump to lament the SOTU was “canceled.”

“The State of the Union speech has been canceled by Nancy Pelosi because she doesn’t want to hear the truth. She doesn’t want the American public to hear what’s going on, and she’s afraid of the truth,” Trump said from the Cabinet Room, according to CNN.

At least two state government leaders had offered Trump their statehouses as an alternative venue for the address.
