What would Jesus do? Raffle off an AR-15 of course! – VIDEO

Gunning for Jesus: Baptists Raffle AR-15 In Response To ‘Socialist’ Persecution (Video)

What would Jesus do? Why, praise the Lord and pass the ammunition, that’s what!  Especially if the Son of God finds himself under attack by socialists and anti-Christian people. It says so right there in the New Testament, right?  RIGHT?!

God and Guns – it’s the new evangelical movement sweeping the country. An upstate New York pastor is raffling off the most holy of holies: an AR-15 assault rifle. A Baptist church in Kentucky recently held a similar event – what Kentucky Baptist Convention spokesperson Chuck McAlister called “outreach to rednecks”.  Indeed. And said rednecks are obviously not confined to the South.

Rev. John Koletas, Pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Troy, NY, told the New York Daily News, “We’re honoring gun owners and hunters.” He added, “And we’re being a blessing and a help to people who have been attacked, viciously attacked, by socialists and anti-Christian people — the politicians and the media.”  He also contends that “The Bible is replete with defending yourself and arming yourself”. In an attempt to lure as many gun totin’, Jesus lovin’ “Christians” as possible to his church, Koletas rolled out a fancy flier advertising the high-powered giveaway.

The flier contains a snippet of the Bible verse John 14:27 – Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.- as well as the discussion point ” Does the Bible defend my right to keep and bear arms?”,  a photo of the deadly weapon under the headline: “Win a FREE AR-15. “

Pastors from nearby churches are shocked and refuse to support Koletas’ event, which glamorizes and glorifies the type of weapon used to slaughter 20 children and 6 staff member at Sandy Hook Elementary School on Dec. 14, 2012.

“I think it’s sending the wrong message entirely,” said the Rev. Willie Bacote, a pastor of Missing Link AME Zion Church in Troy and a prominent gun reform advocate.

“We promulgate the gospel as peacemakers. We’re not people who give away guns,” he said. “Even the Bible teaches us to turn the other cheek.”

Koletas, 56, insisted he’s following God’s will in giving away a potential murder weapon.

“It may be foreign to most city dwellers. It may seem controversial to people who don’t read their Bibles,” stated. Koletas. He also pointed out that the weapon he’s giving away will not include a pistol grip, which makes it legal under New York law.

Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin, who is on the agenda as a speaker, said he doesn’t understand the controversy.

McLaughlin pointed out that the lucky winner be subject to a background check in order to obtain the $700 weapon. ” It’s not like the winner’s going to walk out of the church with this firearm,” said McLaughlin.“This is something Gov. Cuomo should applaud. These are law-abiding people, churchgoing people, and it complies with his gun control legislation known as the SAFE Act.”  The SAFE Act stops criminals and the dangerously mentally ill from buying a gun by requiring universal background checks on gun purchases, increases penalties for people who use illegal guns, mandates life in prison without parole for anyone who murders a first responder, and imposes the toughest assault weapons ban in the country.

The weapon, a Smith & Wesson M&P semiautomatic rifle, the gunmaker’s version of the AR-15, is being donated to the church by a local gun shop.

“The pastor is a customer of ours and we want to support and promote any kind of Second Amendment activity,” Brian Olesen, owner of Oakwood Trading Post, told the Times-Union of Albany. “The winner of the raffle must be at least 18, undergo an FBI background check and meet all state and federal laws before the gun is handed over”, Olesen added.

Koletas is no stranger to controversy. The pastor was arrested seven times by Troy police in 1989 and 1990 on disorderly conduct charges for loud and incessant street-corner preaching. But all charges against him were dropped or dismissed.  He sued the city of Troy for false arrest — seeking $485,000 — but lost, the Albany newspaper reported.

The AR-15, which fires roughly 800 rounds per minute, was a weapon of choice for Newtown school shooter Adam Lanza and Colorado theater gunman James Holmes.

Love your neighbor as yourself. Sounds about right.

Why is this church giving away an assault rifle as a prize. This makes no sense. Guns are designed for one purpose. Are we forgetting the sixth commandment?

That’s funny. My nearby mega-church gave away free XBox 360’s to boost their youth numbers. Especially considering the state they are in, I’m curious about the flock they are preaching to.

That doesn’t look like a standard AR-15…is that kind of modification even legal?
