When message thread screenshots attack… Part I

2

So, yes, I’ve been grossly inconvenienced yet again by the FB police. This time, it was a rather harmless “wristslap”, yet a pain nonetheless.

This time, however it’s personal.

It all started with this guy Joshua.

As you may know, we post lots of things on our FB page that is designed to garner a reaction, and generate a discussion. We, (as in Ian and myself), like to discuss, listen, argue, and yes, shockingly, even learn a thing or two. Many times, we’ll post stuff that we may not necessarily agree with to discuss, debate, and even argue about it. On the same token, we’ll post stuff that we wholeheartedly agree with, and be willing to debate on them based on our opinions.

Well sometimes, some of our readers don’t take to that very kindly. Enter our buddy, Joshua.

I posted this meme not too long ago on the FB page:

Not necessarily groundbreaking stuff is it? :P

Not necessarily groundbreaking stuff is it? 😛

Of course, there were comments from both people who agreed and disagreed with the premise of the meme. Trust me, we don’t expect everybody to agree with us all the time. That would be boring. 😛

Our buddy Joshua posted the following comment, which of course set off the discussion that follows it…

    • Joshua – The insinuation that either party is worse than the other is an insult to intelligence, as a whole. It’s the political system, not simply partisan politics, that needs to be revamped… this ‘+ is better than -‘ and ‘- is better than +’ perpetuates the delusion that we are fighting for something and against something else, when, in fact, they (politicians) are ALL complicit in the state of things. This comes from an Independent (myself) who finds party politics to be divisive and nothing else, so take it with an entire sea of salt… a pinch of it may not be enough to swallow the ‘truth’ as I see it.

Holes In the Foam Yeah, we hear that argument all the time, false equivalency bullshit. I’m not a democrat, but it’s clear to me that the GOP is FAR more destructive than the democrats are. Across the board. Are you kidding? All you have to do is look at their record. Look at how they block routine appointments, standard legislative procedure, and other lowdown shit, that is geared to do nothing but cause failure that they will then try to pin on Obama. It’s crass, evil, and is costing the US in ways that will take DECADES to fully account. So stop with the false equivalencies.

Joshua – Hehehe….ok, you are entitled to your opinions, and many of them I find myself in agreement with, but not this singular one. I do not have an illusion of false equivalencies, but I do have the opinion that both parties are guilty of, throughout their respective histories, screwing the People. The 2 party system is, in itself, what I oppose. Our nation has many shades of grey in between the extremes of black and white, and to offer the voters only 2 parties from which to legitimately choose from is not a form of representation, but rather, an illusion of choice. I would hold that the current president is JUST as treasonous as the Re-re party. His personal list of offenses against the Constitution alone are worthy of, at minimum, impeachment, and probably worthy of trial as well. I am no lover of the Republican party, but man, I could quote just as many grievances that I have with the Democrat Party, as well. To point the finger in only one direction is, well, not covering the whole, by a long shot. I do look forward to your future posts, but on this, we simply disagree.

      • Holes In the Foam You point the finger where the responsibility lies. You don’t paint with a broad brush and make false equivalency arguments if that isn’t the case. You don’t oversimplify bullshit just to make it sound good. If the democrats do something as blatantly evil and treasonous as the GOP are doing right now as we speak, believe me, we’ll be all over that too. I for one, am not bound by ideology that makes me need to rationalize shit in order to defend it. That’s the problem in the US. Everybody is so fucked up by ideology, nobody can be honest anymore. But the most destructive results of that, unfortunately, stem from the GOP and there is no argument.

Joshua – So, you don’t find the DOJ (under a Democrat President regime) spying on Fox News reporters, or the IRS scandal, to be of note, and you think the Re-Re b.s. is somehow ‘worse’? H.R. 347, NDAA, Monsanto protection Act, all under the same regime, and the Conservatives are somehow worse? No argument? Now, sir (or ma’am, whichever the case may be), that is not an intelligent answer on your part, just a quick cop-out… makes me wonder, exactly what elicits such an emotional response from you? Are you gay, and are touchy because of the Conservative stance against gay marriage? Do you believe in abortion as a tax-funded choice of convenience (opposite of their stance)? You are more intelligent than that, from what I have seen, an a one-sided meme is not convincing. I am NOT defending the Republicans (despite your insinuation), and I find their behavior reprehensible, but I could list and QUANTIFY an equal amount of egregious offenses on the part of the Democrats. For me, it is not a matter of ‘false equivalences’, but a recognition that both sides have their hands in the pot, and are ruining the stew for us all. Keep in mind, when one says that there is a problem, if you are in the equation, YOU are part of the problem, unless you do something to solve it. Responsibility IS a broad brush-stroke, and it includes us all. To believe otherwise is to be the kettle calling the pot black.

Holes In the Foam So, you don’t find the DOJ (under a Democrat President regime) spying on Fox “News reporters, or the IRS scandal, to be of note, and you think the Re-Re b.s. is somehow ‘worse’?”

“Fox News reporters”?? Oh.. .that’s so funny, I’m not even going to address it. That would give “Fox News reporters” validity, where there is none.

And since you asked, no. The TP’ers bring this scrutiny on to themselves by shit-talking the IRS and the current system, and claiming that they shouldn’t have to pay taxes. Furthermore, it’s ABUNDANTLY clear that there really is no scandal. Just political scapegoating. The reason the GOP is making such a big stink about this is because they know that they got their hands dirty by covertly funding these fucking TP groups. The truth is already starting to seep out about it. So, no, it’s definitely not worse. And furthermore, the democrats had nothing to do with the IRS’ choosing to investigate these group. That’s what they are SUPPOSED TO DO. Look for tax cheats and lawbreakers. That’s their FUCKING JOB!!!

” H.R. 347, NDAA, Monsanto protection Act, all under the same regime, and the Conservatives are somehow worse?”

So you’re claiming that the democrats are in Monsanto’s backpocket and not the GOP?? And you again fail to understand that all this coddling and privileging of Monsanto is just proof of what I said before. The US is a plutocracy, not a democracy. What drugs are you on?

” No argument? Now, sir (or ma’am, whichever the case may be), that is not an intelligent answer on your part, just a quick cop-out…”

No, it’s the truth. The actions, and WORDS of the GOP clearly outline their intentions. To bring down Obama’s administration and policy at all cost. Even if it results in a “scorched earth”. That’s not a cop-out, that’s the truth. Which, incidentally, you wouldn’t know if it bit you in the ass.

“makes me wonder, exactly what elicits such an emotional response from you? Are you gay, and are touchy because of the Conservative stance against gay marriage?”

Well, if I’m gay, I’m pretty bad at it.

Are you so simplistically stupid that you think I would get “emotional” (was that emotional?) because I’m personally affected by these bozos? Hey idiot, I spend the vast majority of my time outside the US because of these bozos, and what they have done to the US. But I am American, and I would like to see the US do better. Is that too difficult for an ideologue like you to understand?

” Do you believe in abortion as a tax-funded choice of convenience (opposite of their stance)?”

Yeah, tax-funded abortion. That’s the problem with the US. Millions of women lining up to get abortions on the public’s tab. Do you not understand that these are red-herring distractions that do nothing but take your attention away to the REAL problems? And really, who gives a fuck? I’d rather a woman get a tax-funded abortion than have her have a kid that’s going to be dependent on medicaid, food stamps and welfare for the next 18 years. To me, it’s a smart investment. Go figure.

” You are more intelligent than that, from what I have seen, an a one-sided meme is not convincing.”

You’re right, I am, and you’re not. The meme appeals to the fact that this is the situation as it stands. It doesn’t matter whether or not it offends your ideological views. Nobody gives a shit. The fact of the matter is that the GOP is fucking over the whole country, and don’t seem to give two shits about it. While pussies like you go whining that it’s “happening on both sides”, without appeal to the facts. Your ideology and blindness just caters to them. It allows them to get away with the shit they have been able to get away with so far. So you see, I’m not out to convince you of anything.

” I am NOT defending the Republicans (despite your insinuation), and I find their behavior reprehensible, but I could list and QUANTIFY an equal amount of egregious offenses on the part of the Democrats.”

So do it then. And not FOX BULLSHIT from the bubble. Real, verifiable FACTUAL offenses. If they are indeed valid, I’ll gladly skew the democrats just as much. But just SAYING that you can quantify, without actually doing it, is BULLSHIT.

” For me, it is not a matter of ‘false equivalences’, but a recognition that both sides have their hands in the pot, and are ruining the stew for us all.”

And on many levels, you would be correct. But when it comes to an entire party unilaterally acting against the nation’s best interests, like the GOP has for well over a decade now, then no, there is NO FALSE EQUIVALENT argument to be made, and responsible is directed where it lies. So until you have EVIDENCE that the democrats are just as guilty as the GOP, you need to shut the fuck up.

“Keep in mind, when one says that there is a problem, if you are in the equation, YOU are part of the problem, unless you do something to solve it.”

Discussing the issues, and spurring debate is what I do. And putting ideological, simplistics morons in their place is what I do. Does it solve the problem? No. Does it make me feel better? Absolutely.

” Responsibility IS a broad brush-stroke, and it includes us all. To believe otherwise is to be the kettle calling the pot black.”

And you’re a simplistic, ill-informed blathering blowhard who has obviously convinced yourself that the democrats are as as evil as the GOP. But here’s what’s funny. Your ideology bleeds through your arguments, because you have no facts. It’s obvious now that whatever “scandals” were racked up against Obama and the dems were bullshit. Benghazi?? The fucking GOP FORGED EMAILS!!! IRS?? The GOP cried foul, simply because they were trying to protect themselves and their financial backers. Yet, you insist that these were egregious, treasonous violations by the democrats. You lose, and your long-winded, lecturous responses will not change that. So don’t even bother.

Holes In the Foam Hey Joshua, guess you can’t come up with any facts to back up your assertions eh? So you resort to a whiny message instead. It’s ok, we accept your admission of ineptitude.
