Probably Mesopotamian mythology.

there is some evidence that an island volcano collapse led to a super-tsunami in the past. its probably the case that old age tribes, like they did with everything, claimed it was a punishment from god(s)

The Noah myth is a whackadoodle expansion of a tale from the Mesopotamian Epic of Gilgamesh (from about 2,500BC). As usual, many if not most religious types have no curiosity as to how the story came into being and just spout the tired, childish and offensively ignorant rubbish about God coming up with it – and the rest of the nonsensical Bible. Plus, the vengeful God of the Noah story is a real dick, a petty, murderous diva who kills millions of his creations at whim. That’s not quite “loving”, isn’t it? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noah

How can it be the sacred word of a non-existent being?
