On Wednesday, GOP Senator Ted Cruz posted this photo to his official Facebook page:
The photo depicts Cruz with Senator Mike Lee of Utah kneeling next to what appears to be a full tiger pelt, with a caption reading “Did a little shopping for the office with United States Senator Mike Lee in Houston today.” Cruz also tweeted the pic. Cruz’s office claims they do not know if the pelt is real.
The picture quickly drew criticism from PETA’s Ingrid Newkirk, who said “If the rug is real, Ted Cruz’s use of it reduces a majestic once-living being to a doormat. Gunning down wildlife in order to make umbrella stands, rugs, and ornaments is frowned upon in the 21st century, as most people have come to learn from and be awe-inspired by the lives, intelligence, and social make-up of other living beings.”
Perhaps Cruz is unaware that tigers are on the endangered species list, with only 3200 of the animals alive in the world. Perhaps Cruz doesn’t know that 97% of the world’s tiger population has been decimated over the last century.
Or perhaps Cruz is just showing his true colors as a wealthy elite who believes all creatures, great and small, exist only to serve him and those of his ilk.
In other words, perhaps Ted Cruz is just a d*ck.
